WATCH: Alfalfa Feed Value

As alfalfa matures, forage quality declines due to the maturing stems acquiring higher concentrations of cell wall material and the stem material accumulating at a faster rate than the plant leaves. Two avenues to improve forage quality are improving the overall fibre digestibility of the variety or improving the leaf to stem ratio and higher canopy density.
