Evaluating CURANZA® for Enhanced Early-Season Canola Protection

As seeding wraps up, many growers shift into long days of spraying and scouting for weeds and insects. Pests such as flea beetles and cutworms can quickly put valuable canola acres at risk, making early-season protection more important than ever.

At BrettYoung, we are committed to providing our customers with some of the best hybrid canola genetics on the market. Just as importantly, we want to protect those genetics with industry-leading seed treatment solutions. With that goal in mind, BrettYoung will be evaluating the latest in seed treatment technology this summer: CURANZA®.

CURANZA is Syngenta’s new insecticide seed treatment designed to provide enhanced protection against flea beetles and cutworms. Used in combination with a base treatment of Helix Saltro®, this package delivers excellent disease protection alongside exceptional insect control during the critical early stages of crop establishment.

With several replicated side-by-side comparisons underway, along with several other demonstration sites across the Prairies being monitored and analyzed, we are optimistic this technology has the potential to be an excellent fit for canola producers throughout Western Canada.

If you’d like to see the results for yourself, contact your local retailer or BrettYoung Regional Account Manager (RAM) to find a trial location near your farm.

Stay tuned for trial results as we continue to evaluate this exciting new seed treatment technology.

FAQ

Why is early-season insect protection important in canola?

Early-season pests such as flea beetles and cutworms can quickly damage emerging canola plants, reducing stand establishment and putting yield potential at risk. Protecting seedlings during these critical growth stages is key to achieving a successful crop.

What pests does CURANZA target?

CURANZA is designed to provide enhanced protection against flea beetles and cutworms, two of the most significant early-season insect threats to canola production.

What are the potential benefits of CURANZA for canola growers?

Potential benefits include improved early-season insect control, stronger crop establishment, reduced pest pressure, and enhanced protection of BrettYoung’s hybrid canola genetics.

How is CURANZA being used in these trials?

CURANZA is being evaluated in combination with Helix Saltro®, a seed treatment that provides a base level of insect control and strong disease protection. Together, the treatments aim to deliver comprehensive protection against both insect and disease challenges during crop establishment.

Where are the CURANZA trials taking place?

BrettYoung has established several replicated side-by-side comparison trials and demonstration sites across the Prairies to evaluate the performance of CURANZA under Western Canadian growing conditions.

When will trial results be available?

Results will be shared as the growing season progresses and data from the trial sites is collected, analyzed, and evaluated.
