Have you seen the first in BrettYoung’s new generation of LibertyLink® canola hybrids yet? BY 7204LL is here and we’ve made sure you won’t miss out on seeing it in action this season by trialling it at 34 locations across Western Canada.
BY 7204LL has high yield potential and comes equipped with Pod DefendR® and Clubroot DefendR®, meaning you can be sure it has pod shatter resistance and next-generation clubroot resistance.
BrettYoung Comparison Trials
This year’s BrettYoung Comparison Trials (BCT) are looking at more products within the LibertyLink system to complement BY 7204LL. Eight new LibertyLink hybrids are going up against BY 7204LL this year, and against the competitor check hybrid, InVigor® L340PC.
“We have the opportunity this year to place BY 7204LL against the industry-leading hybrid in our BCTs to collect regional field scale data,” said Justine Cornelsen, Agronomic & Regulatory Services Manager for BrettYoung.
The BCT program is designed to collect field scale data on commercially available hybrids and an industry check hybrid while assessing the new up-and-comers within the BrettYoung portfolio. BY 7204LL made its debut in the 2023 BCT program at 15 locations, coming out as a frontrunner.
The continued trialling efforts help us to collect hybrid-specific management practices as we learn more about how the hybrid handles varying weather and climatic conditions from the different growing regions.
“We saw BY 7204LL perform consistently in a dry, hotter season,” said Cornelsen. “Now it’s being put to the test on a much wetter and cooler season.”
DL Seeds Max Plots
In partnership with BrettYoung’s main canola genetics supplier, DL Seeds, the Max Plots are a set of larger block trials that compare BrettYoung’s commercial products to industry checks and new candidate hybrids for both the TruFlex and LibertyLink systems. There are 19 Max Plot locations across the Prairies this year.
“These trials are a great opportunity to see what DL Seeds has to offer but they’re also a chance to see what BrettYoung has in the TruFlex and LibertyLink systems all at one location,” said Cornelsen.
Third-Party Trials
This summer, you can also find BY 7204LL in several third-party trials. In Manitoba, it’s been entered in the Manitoba Canola Growers Variety Evaluation program and is growing in five small plot trials. In Alberta, it’s been entered in the Gateway Research Organization canola trial.
Look for BY 7204LL during corporate farm tours at Richardson Kelburn, Bennet Farms, and the Sir William Stephanson Agriculture Research Centre (Paterson Grain). It will also be the main hybrid at ADAMA Knowledge Sites.
If venturing south of the border, you will also be able to find BY 7204LL growing in five NDSU locations and in the Minnesota Canola Variety Trial program.
Contact your local BrettYoung Regional Account Manager (RAM) to tour a trial site near you. If you’re unable to get to a small plot trial or a BCT to see BY 7204LL in action, talk to your local retailer as there are over 150 side-by-side comparisons across the prairies and northern states.
