In 2025, we continued our field-scale product advancement efforts through continuing to evaluate experimental hybrids alongside current commercial options. In 2026 you will have two new options from BrettYoung: one new LibertyLink® hybrid, BY 7203LL, and one new TruFlex® hybrid, BY 6222TF, each offering distinct maturity ranges and agronomic traits.
BY 7203LL #
BY 7203LL is a high-yielding, earlier mid-maturity canola hybrid built with the full suite of DefendR® protections. With DefendR-rated pod shatter reduction, next-generation clubroot resistance, and strong blackleg protection, it offers the resilience and performance today’s growers demand.
“Growers who trialed this product last summer are eager to bring it into full commercial production this spring — and it’s easy to understand why.” said Henderson. “Looking back at my notes—excellent yields, strong early-season vigor, and a uniform, well-knitted stand that made harvest smooth and efficient.”
In the 2025 BrettYoung Comparison Trials (BCTs), BY 7203LL delivered 105% of L 340PC across eight field-scale sites in Western Canada. “It performed with remarkable consistency,” Henderson added. “It posted wins in more than half of the trials and ranked in the top three 94% of the time.”
BY 6222TF #
BY 6222TF is a mid-maturity canola hybrid with excellent yield performance and great standability. Coupled with the flexibility of the TruFlex herbicide system keeping fields clean and crops competitive has never been easier.
Engineered with moderate pod shatter protection, BY 6222TF will provide you with confidence in both delayed swathing and straight-cut harvest systems. It also includes double-layered DefendR-rated next-generation clubroot and blackleg resistance—delivering the protection needed to safeguard yield potential and long-term field health.
In the 2025 BCTs, BY 6222TF achieved 102% of DK 900TF across seven field-scale sites—performance that stands out. “We set out to find a TruFlex hybrid with top-end yield potential, moderate pod shatter technology, and double-layered DefendR clubroot and blackleg traits—and we found it,” said Henderson.
DefendR #
BrettYoung canola hybrids carrying the DefendR designation deliver superior harvest management and enhanced disease resistance through advanced genetics.
All Pod DefendR hybrids score a minimum of 7.0 on the Canola Council of Canada’s pod shatter rating scale, ensuring strong protection during delayed swathing or straight cutting. BrettYoung currently offers seven Pod DefendR hybrids: BY 7206LL, BY 7204LL, BY 7203LL, BY 7202LL, BY 6223TF, BY 6217TF, and BY 6211TF.
Hybrids with the Clubroot DefendR designation feature stacked 1st and next-generation clubroot resistance genes that protect against the prevalent pathotypes (3A, 3D, and 3H). Clubroot DefendR also protects against common (8E, 8N, 8P), and frequent (5C, 5G, 5L, 8A, and 8D) pathotypes, and against many other infrequent, rare, and new pathotypes.
Hybrids with the Blackleg DefendR designation contain one or more major blackleg resistance genes aligned to predominant regional races, paired with a strong R-rating for adult plant (quantitative) resistance—delivering robust, multi-layered protection.
