• Good palatability for livestock and wildlife
• Makes good quality hay and produces high yields
• Adapted to a wide variety of relatively moist soils
• Intolerant to high water tables
• Common in foothills and mountain valleys
• Can be found in the Parkland Region (Northern Prairies)
• Grows in open woods, moist meadows and shrubby coulees
