• One of the most palatable forages
• Heavily grazed by livestock in fall and wildlife in winter
• Emergence is fair even if germination % is high
• Requires at least two full growing seasons to fully establish
• Grows in a wide variety of soil types
• Extensive root system makes it suitable for erosion control
• Similar drought tolerance to hard fescue
