# BY 7203LL Delivers Strong Trial Performance for the Second Consecutive Year

After an impressive showing in 2025, BY 7203LL is proving its performance again in our 2026 BrettYoung Comparison Trials (BCTs). With strong yields, consistent results, and a comprehensive disease resistance package, this LibertyLink® canola hybrid continues to stand out across Western Canada.

BY 7203LL made a strong first impression in the 2025 BCT program, finishing among the top three hybrids in 15 of 16 trial locations. Now, with a second year of trial results coming in, BY 7203LL is demonstrating its ability to deliver competitive yields across a range of growing conditions.

"BY 7203LL is a great fit for growers in central and northern Saskatchewan and into Alberta," says Henderson, Canola Product Manager at BrettYoung. "Along with its strong yield potential, it offers Pod DefendR® for dependable pod shatter tolerance, plus Clubroot and Blackleg DefendR® genetics for a strong disease resistance package in an earlier mid-maturity hybrid."

#### **2025: A Standout First Year**

BY 7203LL entered the BrettYoung Comparison Trial program in 2025 and quickly established itself as a top performer.

Across 16 replicated trial locations, BY 7203LL achieved an average relative yield of 106% compared to leading competitor hybrids. It finished first in nine locations and ranked among the top three in 15 of 16 trials.

#### **2025 Performance Highlights:**

- **106%** average relative yield compared to leading competitor hybrids
- **9 of 16** trial locations with a first-place finish
- **15 of 16** locations with a top-three finish
- **56.5 bu/ac** average yield
- **Over 75 bu/ac** highest recorded yield, near Camrose, Alberta

While the yield results were impressive, it was BY 7203LL's consistency across trial locations that truly set it apart.

#### **2026: Strong Performance Continues**

Following its impressive 2025 results, BY 7203LL returned to the BCT program in 2026 to demonstrate its performance across another growing season.

Growing conditions varied considerably across the Prairies in 2026, with excess moisture delaying seeding in many areas. Despite these challenges, BY 7203LL was planted at 21 replicated trial locations, providing another opportunity to evaluate its performance under real-world field conditions.

With final results still being collected, early data indicates BY 7203LL is delivering another competitive year.

#### **2026 Performance Highlights (Preliminary):**

- **101%** average relative yield compared to the trial mean
- **46 bu/ac** average yield
- **70 bu/ac** highest recorded yield, near Vermilion, Alberta
- **21** replicated trial locations planted

These preliminary results build on the hybrid's strong 2025 performance and reinforce its ability to compete across different environments and growing conditions.

For growers evaluating canola hybrids for the upcoming season, performance across multiple years and locations provides valuable insight into how a hybrid may perform on their own farm. BY 7203LL's results over the past two growing seasons make it a compelling option to consider for 2027.

#### **How BrettYoung Comparison Trials Help Evaluate Hybrid Performance**

The BrettYoung Comparison Trial program was developed to evaluate canola hybrids under real-world farming conditions across Western Canada.

Working with growers and retailers throughout the Prairies, BrettYoung conducts replicated field-scale strip trials that complement existing small- and mid-sized plot research.

Each BCT typically includes one or two commercial BrettYoung hybrids, a competitor check, and approximately four experimental hybrids. These trials allow BrettYoung's Canola Advancement Team to evaluate yield performance and agronomic characteristics under commercial farming practices, from seeding through harvest.

By collecting data across multiple locations and growing seasons, the BCT program provides valuable insights into hybrid performance, consistency, and regional suitability.
